Self-esteem: The Enamel of Success

baadshah000 @ 16:21

We all experience pride in ourselves when we earn a good grade on an exam or reach a personal goal. In fact, the ability to take pleasure in our achievements is a big reason why we continue to pursue our dreams and take risks. This pride and pleasure we experience is called self-esteem and it is very important to reaching our career goals.

The definition of self-esteem is basically when you have confidence and satisfaction in your own skills and abilities, and it is usually achieved through experiences of personal success. Self-esteem helps you to cope with difficult challenges when they arise and gives you the faith to overcome them.

Self-esteem is critical to your career success. You need lots of it at all stages of your career - whether it's for a job search, as a new employee, working with others, or dealing with stress and deadlines. If you're like most people, you may wonder if you've got enough self-esteem to reach your career goals.
Fortunately, there are steps that you can take to build and strengthen your self-worth.

To begin with, create a plan where you can get daily exercise and eat a balanced diet of healthy foods. Maintaining care and respect for your body also has benefits for your mind and promotes healthy thoughts about your self-worth.

Remember to engage in activities that are fun and meaningful to you. Participate regularly in a hobby that you enjoy or perhaps volunteer at an animal shelter if you're fond of furry creatures. Nurturing your interests is a great way to remind yourself of what's important to you.

Reward yourself for your achievements by celebrating with friends, getting a massage, or offering a kind word of praise to yourself. Every time you recognize a success, you are building a stronger trust and support system within yourself.

Create a list of successes that you can refer to in times of self-doubt. This is a wonderful way to stay in touch with your inner strength and reinforce your ability to overcome obstacles.

Lastly, forgive yourself when things don't quite turn out like you expected; being critical of your efforts only serves to chip away at self-esteem. Release any feelings of guilt or shame to make room for poise and confidence.

Using these steps to build and strengthen your self-esteem takes practice and dedication, but the results are well worth your efforts. Your self-esteem is your most valuable asset in reaching your goal of a rewarding career in the dental field - so fixodent and forget it!

10 Simple Ways to Turn Your Creative Spark into a Flame

10 Simple Ways to Turn Your Creative Spark into a Flame
by Nancy Marmolejo

Creativity and innovation begin with the spark of an idea. But for so many, the process ends there with no plan to manifest. Understanding simple ways to turn your ideas into action will give you the edge to turn that spark to a flame and rise as a leader in innovation and creativity.

These ten simple tools not only jumpstart your creative spirit, but they help you maintain and sustain the idea flow. Making these steps a part of your life will reinforce a solid creative foundation in your life, facilitate innovation, and ease your problem-solving process.

1. Understand What You’re Passionate About.

You can accomplish this by creating a mission statement, an artist’s statement, or a set of guiding principles. Finding what truly drives and inspires you helps focus your attention on your creative gifts. A well thought out mission serves as a beacon on your path, helping you decide when to say yes and when to say no. This process is crucial for creative people—especially those who find themselves overwhelmed by numerous ideas.

2. Catch Your Ideas.

How many times has a great idea struck you and by the end of the day you can’t remember what it was? Creating a system for catching your ideas will help you realize what an amazingly creative mind you already have. Whether you use notecards, a PDA, a tape recorder, or a notepad, find the method that you’re comfortable with…and use it! The key is consistency and variety. Discover what works for you, and don’t be afraid to be unconventional.

3. De-Clutter Your Mind.

Amidst the wonderful ideas floating around in your head are random thoughts, mental observations, worries, fears, and reminders. Begin keeping a daily journal to record your mind’s ramblings. Write at least two pages, preferably in longhand, on whatever is going through your head. Make lists, hold conversations, explore new ideas, document dreams. This is a great activity for first thing in the morning and right before bed.

4. Enjoy Creative Rituals.

Engaging in an activity that will entertain, amuse, and delight your creative spirit keeps your outlook fresh and your innovation fired up. A ritual can be as simple as 2 minutes of intentional laughing or as elaborate as a weekend away. The purpose is to inspire you to do something new and different that recharges your creativity and stimulates your imagination.

5. Make Time for Reflection and Introspection.

Take time to get quiet and look within. What behaviors or thoughts keep you from growing your creativity? How are situations in your life zapping your energy, thereby reducing your creative output? Creativity is an inside-out job. Healing yourself from within is a step in the right direction.

6. Practice Gratitude.

Gratitude is a HUGE part of creativity. When you express gratitude for the simplest things, you’ll find yourself rewarded with a host of new ideas. Use your daily journal to list everything you’re grateful for, and you’ll soon feel the power of gratitude in your life. If you’re suffering from a creative block, sit down and write a list of ten things you’re grateful for. When good things come your way, put a word of gratitude out there.

7. Practice Appreciation.

Along with gratitude comes appreciation: appreciating the creativity of others, appreciating beauty, appreciating people’s efforts. Find something to appreciate in everything you see today, whether it’s something from nature, a handmade item, or

Five Ways to Boost Your Self-Confidence...

Author: Fritz Blanc

Article:

Studies has shown that people with self-confidence and good self-esteem tend to be happier in general, therefore they live a more enjoyable life and are more successful at what they do. On the other hand, people without self-confidence and a low self-esteem tend to live a life filled with depression, anxiety, stress and many more problems that can affect both their mental and physical well-being.

You need to like yourself first before anyone else can like you.

Anything that you may not like about yourself, such as your weight, your height etc. can either be changed or must be accepted by you in order to find self-love. Your weight for instance can be changed. You have to start doing things that would lead to a gradual weight loss. A thinner, leaner person is more likely to like himself.

Your height is not a something that you can change. For every inch taller that you'd like to be, you'll have to develop other attributes to compensate for it. You have to become a fast thinker, a person with a good sense of humour, you need to have the kind of attitude that make people enjoy being around, for example.

Dress like a million bucks and your self confidence will take a huge boost specially with all the people complimenting you on how good you look.

I am sure that you have heard the expression, give in order to receive, well, start complimenting people everyday and watch how many compliments you'll start receiving in return.

Walk with good posture, as in walking tall, that will also boost your self-condidence and self-esteem. This by the way, has been scientifically proven.

If you are shy of doing something, then that won't build your self-confidence until you can face it. If you are shy of public speaking, the only way to build yourself up about public speaking is by doing it.

A friend of mine who was relatively shy, told me recently that his last job was about doing presentations to different group of people. He said that he was working in an auditorium designed to accomodate as many as one thousand people. The person doing the presentation is on a podium with large screens revolving around him. As he talks he is pointing to the screens and explaining various elements related to the subject.

What my friend said to me was, the first few days was like hell, he was shaking all over during his presentation and his voice was very shaky due to the state of nervousness that he was in.

One day while on the podium, he said to himself, what do I have to be nervous about? I am doing it because I wanted to do it.

Nobody is forcing me to do it. From then on, he said, he became so at ease and relaxed in front of the audience. As a matter of fact, the more people in the auditorium, the better he felt. He did it for five years and it became as easy as walking or eating.

Go ahead and start doing some volunteer work in a field that really make you uncomfortable. Before long, you'd have conquered your fear and all that will be left will be victory over your fear. Your self confidence will soar and your whole life will change for the better.

Self Confidence Tips

Self Confidence Tips
1) How to Feel Good When You Need to

Because self confidence and feeling good has a major 'hormonal' element, you can change the way you feel by re-living good times. If you can remember a time you felt really self confident, then excellent - use that! If not, then use a time you felt contented or happy. Taking deliberate control of your thoughts and emotions will have an huge impact on your self confidence and other areas of your life.

2) Beating Self Consciousness, Confidence Enemy No.1

Although useful for learning about the impact you have on others, too much self consciousness is the No.1 enemy of self confidence. The trick is keeping your attention off yourself when you need to. Here's how...

a) When you feel self-conscious, (you can usually tell because you start to feel anxious), choose something outside of yourself to focus on and study it in detail. For example: examine a door, look at the different textures and shades of colour, wonder about who made it and how and so on. The important thing is that you're learning how to keep your attention off yourself.

It is a good idea to practise this technique in private first. Just sit quietly, practising focusing firstly on your own thoughts and then deliberately focusing outwards onto a picture or piece of furniture.

b) Social self confidence can be difficult to find sometimes because it is unclear what you are 'supposed to do'. In this event, concentrate on what your purpose in the situation is. Whether you're there to:

- find out if you like the other people present
- make others feel comfortable
- find out some information
- make business contacts
- and so on...

It's much more difficult to feel self-conscious if your mind is occupied with a task.

People are often most comfortable with others when working towards a common goal. The common goal of socialising could be making friends, the exchange of mutually beneficial information, expanding your knowledge of different types of people... it could be whatever you want it to be! The key is to have an aim. (Related: Social Skills Article)

3) Watch Out for Undue Criticism - Especially Your Own!

Have you noticed that people will speak to themselves in a way they would never speak to others? You know the sort of thing - you break a glass and it's "You stupid idiot. You can't do anything right can you?"

Criticism that leaves the receiver feeling upset or depressed is rarely useful.

Challenging your own assumptions about yourself and other people can really help build self confidence. Here's a few to get you started:

Those confident-looking people have bad moments too - you just don't get to hear about them!

If you feel under-confident, it doesn't mean other people can tell. They're often too caught up with their 'own stuff' to notice!

If you catch yourself saying things to yourself like "I'm no good at anything" then rest assured, you're wrong about that. Everyone can compose a sentence, get successfully to the store, eat without choking and do a million other things. Emotion can make things seem hopeless when they rarely are.

Don't let yourself make sweeping statements about yourself - in the long run it is this sort of thing that can really damage your self image. If this happens, say to yourself calmly and gently, "Hold on a minute, that's not true". If you can come up with some evidence that disproves the sweeping statement, then even better. It may take a bit of effort at first, but the impact on your self confidence levels is huge.

Building self esteem is not just about thinking good of yourself, it's about not thinking bad for no reason!

Just because you have felt bad about yourself in the past doesn't mean you're always going to feel that way. I have seen hundreds of people surprise themselves once they have learned how to build self confidence in a way that it stays built!

The important thing is to get away from thinking "Why did that happen?", or "Why do I feel this way?" and towards "How would I like to feel?", "In what situations do I feel confident?" or, "What do I need to learn in order to have better self confidence in this situation?"

This change in thinking is so important that we devote quite a bit of time to it on the Self Confidence Trainer.

Persevere and don't expect everything at once. Really learn how to develop your self confidence by following the tips from this site and the free Self Confidence Course and notice the small differences as they happen. Building good self confidence is a wonderful thing, and it's much easier than you'd imagine.

Successfully Turning Your Book Into a Business...

PLANNING YOUR MARKETING
Proven Must-Dos from Veteran Authors for Effectively Planning Your Book Marketing Efforts and Maximizing Sales
by Mark Victor Hansen
With sales of more than 100 million books under my belt, I know what it takes to successfully market and promote a book. It all starts with planning. You can have a great book, wonderful website and target-rich mailing list, but it’s important to know who you’re selling to, how you’re going to reach them, and where you want to focus your efforts. Following these must-do steps will give you the best chance of maximizing your book’s sales potential.
Think like a businessperson, not an author.
Once the final draft is written, you’re no longer an author. You’re an entrepreneur with a product to sell, and it’s critical that you start thinking that way. Instead of spending your time on editing and proofreading, you’ve got to invest your time in marketing activities. That means finding the answers to three critical questions:
• Who is your audience?
• What will compel them to buy your book?
• What methods should you use to reach them?
At this stage, you need to think about capturing leads, producing sales material, getting testimonials and positive reviews, and arranging publicity events. Your focus should be on all the ways you can create awareness of your book.
The best way to get started in thinking like a businessperson is after your final draft is done but before you go to print, sit down and write out the answers to these questions:
• What is my marketing budget?
• What resources do I have in place already?
• What people do I know who can help me?
• What are my sales goals for the year?
Keep your expectations realistic.
The average self-published book sells only about 3,000 copies, and the average book issued by a publisher sells only a few thousand more. For every bestseller, there are hundreds of books that sell moderately and disappear. So you’ve got to keep your expectations realistic, or you’ll set yourself up to get discouraged and quit trying to market your book.
Rather than worry about the overall number of copies sold, I recommend to people that they set their goals, especially for a first book, like this:
• Monetary goals. For most authors, selling enough copies to break even is a very worthwhile goal. If you can do that, you’ve done great!
• Career goals. Your book might give a big boost to your speaking career, medical practice or other endeavor.
• Publicity goals. Your book could position you as an expert in your field, so that you get invited on radio programs, TV, speaking engagements, etc.
• Publishing goals. Maybe your book is noticed by a publisher who wants to re-release it, or you are offered a chance to write future books.
• Networking goals. You meet agents, designers, journalists and others who could be wonderful contacts for the future.
Your expectations for your book should not be centered on copies sold. Instead, focus on developing and executing a brilliant marketing and PR plan, making key contacts, and finding ways to create value for readers, for the media and for organizations who might make big bulk purchases. If you focus on those things, sales will take care of themselves.
Concentrate on meeting all 5 types of goals. That way, even if your sales are only moderate, but you do brilliantly in getting publicity and making contacts, you can consider your book a success.
Have a solid, long-term marketing plan.
Before you ever get close to even finishing your first draft, sit down and map out the basics of your marketing and promotional plan. The key questions you’ll need to answer:
• What is my marketing budget?
• When should my book be ready?
• Who is my audience and what need does this book meet?
• What will my price point be?
• How many copies do I need to sell to break even?
• How many copies do I want to sell?
• What marketing channels will I use to reach my readers?
• What relationships can I leverage to make bulk sales?
• What relationships can I leverage to get press coverage?
• Who will design my Website?
• Do I need a marketing staff?
• Will I do an e-newsletter?
• Will I hire a distributor or ship the books myself?
• Do I want to be in the bookstores?
• Will I do “guerilla” marketing?
• What ancillary products can I produce (tapes, CDs, etc.)
• How can my seminars/consulting/current business support this book?
That’s a lot of material, but it’s all important. Take a couple of months and figure it out. When you’re done, you should be able to map out a marketing plan that tells you:
• Who you’re selling to.
• What message you’re using to sell to them.
• What your book costs.
• Where they can buy it.
• What methods you’re using to reach them.
• How you’re generating media coverage.
• How you’ll generate revenue beyond books.
• What you’re spending.
In concluding, let me clarify a couple of terms I used. “Channels” refers to the pathways you use to get information about your book to your audience. Newspaper advertising is one channel, PR is another, and direct mailyou’re your Website are others. All in all there are more than 20 channels, from tradeshows to seminars to event sponsorships. Explore the ones that are right for you.
“Guerilla” marketing refers to any marketing activity that’s non-traditional, usually a little radical, and really, really cheap. I’ve seen people pull all kinds of guerilla marketing stunts, from papering an entire downtown with posters at 3 a.m. to holding staged rallies and protests, to going into Barnes and Noble and putting bookmarks with information about their books in thousands of shelved books. Is guerilla marketing appropriate for your book? If it is, be creative. Who knows what might happen?
